The Field Feeding Team’s mission is to provide the right food service equipment to Army Combatant Commanders, giving them the organic capability to feed themselves in a modular/maneuver combat environment, training or other assignment. The key challenges in this environment are lack of available resources, i.e., intermittent or no electrical power, limited water supply and operation on JP-8, the single fuel on the battlefield.
The Field Services Team’s mission is to provide the right field service equipment to Army Combatant Commanders in a modular/maneuver combat environment, training or other assignment. The team leverages emerging technologies from the Science and Technology (S&T) community to provide the best field service solutions to meet the capability gaps identified by the Combat Developer, The Combined Arms Support Command. The Field Services Team’s functional areas include clean and repair combat clothing and textiles, provide personal hygiene for warfighters in tactical environments, and provide mortuary and religious services.
The Cargo Aerial Delivery Program encompasses the design and development of supplies and equipment in support of mass airborne assaults, resupply, special operations, deep strike concepts, and humanitarian relief. The focus is on improved accuracy and reliability of parachutes, increased payloads, improved safety, and increased operational flexibility.
The Shelter Systems Team has direct responsibility for the development, fielding and sustainment for shelter system commodities managed within PdM FSS. Specifically, the Shelter Systems team develops, tests and fields integrated products and systems that house and support Soldier sustainment in the field by providing program execution and life cycle management for rigid wall shelters, soft wall shelters (tents), heaters (powered and non-powered), Environmental Control Units (ECUs), ballistic protection for shelters, specialty storage containers, and camouflage net systems.
Force Provider is the Army’s Premier Base Camp. The Force Provider concept was born in 1991 as a result of inadequate living conditions for our Soldiers during Desert Shield/Storm. As a result, senior Army leaders directed the development of a containerized, highly deployable city. Force Provider provides Soldiers with the basic necessities for living conditions - billets, showers, latrines, and laundry, kitchen and their support equipment. Force Provider includes power generation and distribution, fuel support, water and waste water systems.
The Force Provider Module has evolved from a 550 Soldier camp with limited flexibility in deployment capability into an Expeditionary Base Camps designed to support 150 Soldiers with billeting facilities, administration facilities, dining facilities, water and fuel storage, and distribution systems, and wastewater collection. Force Provider systems provide the flexibility to be collocated in order to support units in upwards of 3000 personnel. In addition to the 150 personnel camps, a limited number of 75 personnel camps are available to support smaller units operating in austere locations. The Force Provider program office also manages additional add-on capability such as: Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) facility, Low Demand Start Stop (LDSS) micro-grid systems, site preparation kits, cold weather kit, and numerous other add-on capabilities.
Force Provider has provided operations across the globe in: Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Guantanamo Bay, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan, Korea, Europe and Africa. Due to the resounding success of the program and versatility of the system, the Force Provider modules continue to remain in high demand from Combatant Commanders.
Future Capabilities Integration Laboratory
The Army’s Future Capabilities Integration Laboratory (FCIL), managed and operated by PM FSS, enables the Army and the Joint Services to rapidly evaluate future technologies in a live Soldier environment, providing solutions to reduce the energy demand and logistical burden on base camps. The 4-acre FCIL, located at Fort Devens, Massachusetts is fully instrumented to measure water, fuel and power usage; forging the path for increased energy efficient and base camp commonality. Numerous technologies have been evaluated and implemented by PM FSS to increase the energy efficiency of field systems. Improving our Soldier's quality of life, along with better facilitating the mission of units at base camps, are just a few of the FCIL's objectives.
